The Coral Reef Ecology and Management Laboratory (CREM Lab) is focused on the development of interdisciplinary and dynamic ecological models leading to sets of decision support tools (DST) for the management of the full spectrum of coral reefs and the people that depend on these coastal resources. The future of the world's coral reefs rely directly on how well they and their dependent human societies are understood by scientists, resource managers and the general public. Against the backdrop of rampant coral reef degradation and increasing poverty of coral reef-dependent people, CREM envisions the development and utilization of state-of-the-art computing environment and cutting edge technologies, specifically the application of agent-based modeling techniques to advance our understanding of this complex ecosystem.
